Mindy Johnstone
Yoga Teacher
A Banff local, Mindy Johnstone has been exploring the art of yoga for over 20 years. With roots in the Ashtanga tradition, her practice and teachings have weaved in the love of creative sequencing. Her vinyasa based classes are influenced from teachers that have similar styles as Nicki Doane, Rameen Peyrow and Larry Schultz. Throughout recent years, Mindy has discovered that as we age the need to balance between strength and mobility is critical for our health & wellness. Students are invited to build from this concept during classes with variations that compliment an individual’s ability. Her intention is to encourage practitioners to focus on what we can do rather than our limitations. When teaching gentler styles of practice, Mindy combines her training of Yin & iRest Yoga Nidra modalities to create a healing environment to nurture the subtle bodies. Mindy is recognized as a compassionate, patient and empowering teacher who guides her students to seek peace of mind through creative movement and connection.
Yoga is the perfect compliment for a nature lover and adventure seeker. Whether it’s by foot, skis or water vessels, Mindy is often exploring different parts of Canada and remote locations with her bear biologist husband and teenage daughter, Charly. When she’s not instructing yoga, Mindy is an artist & wellness facilitator. You’ll find her teaching art classes, paint nights and reading Tarot. Throughout the years, Mindy also leads local and international retreats to places like Italy, Provence Croatia and Morocco. Visit her website to see where you can experience a wellness retreat to some of the world’s most beautiful destinations. She looks forward to returning to the Lounge after 15 years and sharing her love of the practice within the community.
